Terms of Reference (TOR) for Operations Assistant/Officer
1. Position Title: Operations Assistant/Officer
Location: Crawfish Hatchery & Farm, Phuentsholing, Bhutan
Reports to: Team Leader/ Farm Manager
2. Company Overview:
Crawfish Himalayan Limited is a newly established Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) company in Bhutan under DHI, specializing in crawfish farming and hatchery operations. Our objective is to produce high-quality crawfish fries and ensure sustainable and profitable crawfish production.
3. Job Purpose:
The Operations Officer shall be responsible for supporting and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the crawfish hatchery, grow-out farm, insect farming units (Black Soldier Fly and earthworms), and organic farming plots. The role is designed to ensure consistent crawfish fry production, operational efficiency, biosecurity compliance, logistics coordination, and progressive development of a sustainable in-house feed system.
4. Key Responsibilities:
4.1 Hatchery & Farm Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the crawfish hatchery and farm.
- Support the Hatchery Manager in implementing daily and weekly production schedules (broodstock management, spawning, larval rearing, and nursery activities).
- Ensure a consistent and healthy production of crawfish fries.
- Monitor and maintain the health and quality of broodstock.
- Implement biosecurity measures and disease prevention strategies.
- Assist in procurement and inventory management of feeds, chemicals, nets, and hatchery equipment.
- Ensure optimal water quality and habitat conditions for crawfish growth.
4.2 Insect Farming & Organic Farming Operations
- Support establishment and operation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) breeding and larval production units.
- Oversee earthworm (vermiculture) units for composting and supplemental feed purposes.
- Coordinate organic farming activities to produce vegetables and agro-waste for insect feed inputs.
- Ensure proper segregation, handling, and processing of organic waste used in insect farming.
4.4 Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with local aquaculture laws, environmental regulations, and biosecurity measures.
- Maintain accurate records of production, feed consumption, and farm performance.
- Provide regular reports on hatchery and farm operations to management.
- Prepare weekly/monthly operational and logistics reports for submission to the Team leader/Hatchery Manager/GM.
- Recommend improvements and innovations to enhance productivity.
- Develop SoPs for the operations of various aspects of the hatchery.
5. Key Competencies

6. Required Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in: Fisheries / Aquaculture / Animal Science / Agriculture /Life Science, or 5+ years of experience in similar fields preferred.
7. Employment Terms:
- Contract Type: Full-time
- Contract Duration: 3 yr (renewable)
- Work Environment: Hatchery with administrative duties as required.
