Position Title: Technician

Location: Toorsa Zone 3 PDTP, Phuentsholing, Chukha Dzongkhag

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

Employment Type: Lump sum Contract

  1. Background:

CHL (Crawfish Himalayan Ltd.) is a newly established aquaculture (FDI) company based in Bhutan, under DHI, focusing on the farming of premium-quality crawfish and crawfish fries. The company seeks to create demand for its products both domestically and internationally, targeting high-end hotels, restaurants, and general consumers. Additionally, CHL aims to explore opportunities in the aquaculture equipment market in Bhutan and neighboring Indian states.

The Electrical Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the electrical integrity of the farm’s systems and supporting operational efficiency. 

  1. Objective of the Role:
  • The Electrical Technician plays a key role in installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment used in crawfish farming. This includes devices such as pumps, aerators, lighting systems, control panels, generators, and transformers. The role is essential for ensuring all electrical components operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards and local regulations.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays as needed.
  • Should be on standby for any emergency calls.
  1. Key Responsibilities: (Hatchery & RAS)
  • Carry out industrial electrical wiring installations for hatchery and RAS facilities in accordance with approved drawings, Bhutan Electrical Code, and workplace safety standards.
  • Install, test, commission, and maintain single-phase and three-phase electrical systems supplying pumps, blowers, aerators, filtration units, and auxiliary hatchery equipment.
  • Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of electrical wiring systems to ensure the continuous operation of critical life-support systems.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs in electrical control panels, including contactors, starters, relays, fuses, MCBs, MCCBs, ELCBs/RCDs, and switchgear controlling hatchery and RAS equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electric motors, submersible pumps, circulation pumps, blowers, generators, and transformers, including insulation resistance testing, continuity checks, and functional testing.
  • Use appropriate electrical testing and measuring instruments (multi meter, clamp meter, megger, insulation tester) to accurately identify and rectify electrical faults.
  • Interpret and work from electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and single-line diagrams as per NC3 competency standards.
  • Ensure proper installation and maintenance of earthing and grounding systems, especially in wet and high-humidity hatchery environments.
  • Maintain and support backup power systems, including diesel generators, automatic/manual changeover switches, and emergency circuits supplying critical RAS loads.
  • Monitor and maintain electrical systems in wet, corrosive, and high-risk areas, ensuring proper insulation, cable management, sealing, and electrical safety.
  • Ensure uninterrupted electrical supply to critical hatchery and RAS systems, and respond promptly to electrical failures to minimize risk of stock loss.
  • Support installation and basic maintenance of electrical sensors, alarms, and control devices related to water circulation, aeration, and level monitoring, under supervision.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including lockout–tagout, safe isolation, use of PPE, and compliance with electrical safety regulations.
  • Identify electrical hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance issues, and report them immediately to the supervisor for corrective action.
  • Maintain basic records and logs of electrical maintenance, inspections, faults, and repairs carried out.
  • Coordinate with hatchery technicians, supervisors, and other trades to ensure planned maintenance and minimal disruption to hatchery operations.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping, tool control, and safe storage of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Perform duties strictly within NC3 competency limits, and carry out any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  1. Required Qualifications and Experience
  • NCIII (Electrical) Certified.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in an industrial or aquaculture setting.
  • Proven experience with 3-phase systems, control panels, and motor-driven equipment.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor, humid environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
